Group Productions vs Individual Productions

Whilst watching some of my usual content online I began to think about how smaller production are gaining similar, if not more traction online as larger company productions and franchises. The two items I decided to compare was ASDFMovies on YouTube created Originally by Thomas "TomSka" Ridgewell, he has since then expanding the team to three permanent people to deal with the popularity. The second being the Jackass Franchise, originally released on MTV created by Dickhouse Productions. The ASDFMovie franchise is arguably as popular in the comedy genre as the Jackass franchise and yet one has been made by a considerably smaller group and budget. It had also ultimately been distributed very differently too. The rise of Youtube allowed content to be created by individuals rather than entire companies with money that will enable content to be distributed worldwide. Recently Laptops and Desktops, sometimes even phones come with some form of editing software installed most also

Using my Time in Isolation.

After having to go into isolation and many of the plans particularly to do with grad projects seemed to disappear due to the virus. I started to use my spare time to try and learn some new things by myself. I have been wanting to learn how to use some more Adobe software packages but had previously not had the time. I now decided to try and teach myself how to use Adobe Animate. I linked the final piece on my Linkedin. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6647202330976501760/ To create the piece I reinforced my current knowledge in photoshop to create some of the content. I then imported this into Animate and then used YouTube tutorial and also played with the software myself to create the very basic final piece. If the current situation remains, I aim to continue learning how to use Animate to create a larger project and will also extend this to other software that would be beneficial to my future career.

Starting to Help with Grad Projects

In an attempt to gain more practical experience I started looking at helping on grad projects. One person that contacted me was Lewis Stride, my PAL leader from level 4. We discussed the project and what I could do and my roles were decided as behind the Scenes Photographer, Videographer and editor for the BTS segment and Runner. In preparation I researched into the Canon 6D which would be the camera that I would use. Filming was due to commence during reading week (2nd March) however due to issues surrounding the puppets, filming has been suspended and we are now awaiting new filming dates. Emily Cox was part of a lecture discussing internships and Grad projects, I put my Name forward for  her project. The role that I intended to fill was again behind the scenes photographer. Approximate filming dates are for the end of March and Beginning of April and I am currently waiting to hear back with confirmation.

Linkedin + Light Up Poole

For the stories and spaces unit, I worked with my group to create a projected experimental piece. I saw this as a perfect example to use to begin using Linkedin in the way it is intended and shared the process behind the project. Here I was able to interact with others on the course doing the same and also see what work they were doing. This highlighted the benefit of group interaction and how sometimes it is indeed necessary to extend the number of people working on a project. Without a larger group things such as deadlines may not have been met, particularly due to the many layers running alongside each other such as the technical programming, projector content creation and prop creation.

My Online Presence - Future

The fact that I have a popular name shows some challenges that I will face when trying to to gain traction with work viewership and also means that my content will only really be seen by employers if they take note of my website links and social media handles that I hand to them. To try and ensure that my pages are always relevant to any potential searches I updated my LinkedIn page, Including links to my new website, updated employment due to my new job and also gained connections with more relevant people. Furthermore, I have been making plans for new photography/videography content on my professional instagram to create in my spare time in the upcoming months, the planning includes looking at things I enjoy creating, and ideas that I come up with and also looking at certain trends that are of interest to me.

My Online Presence - Current

One of the first things that I began looking at was my current online presence and what exactly and employer would find if the google searched my name, the personal accounts that I know I have are on: Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The professional accounts are on YouTube, Linkedin, Instagram where I upload select pieces of photography and also use to connect with other like minded people to see what they are doing. This is separate from my personal account as I want to keep my following very specialism based so the content that I consume on this page isn't diluted. I have also a WixSite portfolio that showcases all work I do, including photography, videography and scriptwriting. I Google searched myself and viewed several pages and actually found none of my pages. One of the first thoughts was this may be as a result of having an incredibly popular forename and surname in the western world. One thing I could do to change this is to create a unique 'company' name that w
